MBSR is a highly researched educational program that uses mindfulness meditation to teach taking better care of ourselves and living healthier and more satisfying lives. Mindfulness
practice is ideal for cultivating greater awareness of the ways unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
can undermine emotional and physical health. The mind is known to
be a factor in stress and stress-related disorders, and meditation has been
shown to positively effect a range of physiological processes, such as lowering
blood pressure and reducing overall arousal and emotional reactivity.
How Mindfulness Can Help
Reduces future-oriented thinking and worrying
Helps us keep from obsessing about the past
Opens up more options for dealing with the present
Recognizes that thoughts are not facts
Creates self-empowerment
People who have participated in MBSR have found relief from a range of conditions including: chronic pain, IBS, migraine headaches, anxiety, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, depression
The MBSR program started in the
Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in
1979 and is now offered in over 200 medical centers, hospitals, and clinics
around the world.

Mindfulness Meditation Class
Develop an inner resource to facilitate
healing & wellbeing Respond creatively rather then react
automatically Transform negative habit
patterns by applying mindfulness Find the freedom
that exists in the magic of every moment
If you have been hearing a lot about
meditation and wanting to give it a try, or, if you have
been looking for a way to jump start your personal
practice, this class would be a good fit for you.
Over the course of 6 sessions, the practices and
principles of mindfulness meditation will be introduced in
a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
In mindfulness meditation, you begin by
resting the attention on one aspect of experience, like
the breath or sounds. Once a sense of calm is established,
you note whatever arises in the field of your experience.
Paradoxically, this process of observing can lead you to
feel less bothered by negative thoughts, painful emotions
and unpleasant sensations.
The emphasis will be on using meditative
techniques to bring mindfulness into daily life. We often
suffer from the effects of stress and develop persistent
habits that cause emotional and physical imbalances.
By slowing down and taking closer look, it's possible to
weaken the power of negative habits and learn to
creatively respond to whatever arises.
Research shows that daily meditation can
help you enhance your overall health and well-being.
Mindfulness meditation offers you a way to approach stress
and live life more effectively. Each session will
include meditative practices, discussion and suggestions
for home practice.
