Mindfulness in the
Treatment of Disordered Eating

Recently published:  Integrating Mindfulness Into the Therapy Hour, Eating Disorders, 19:1-8, 2011.

In this training, Dr Boudette brings the principles and practices of mindfulness to the treatment of disordered eating.  After and an overview of the theory and practice of mindfulness, participants will learn how to apply mindfulness skills intended to help clients interrupt unconscious eating patterns and experience a new freedom with food.

Through lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises, participants will learn mindfulness skills to help guide intuitive eating, increase self awareness and decrease the need for emotional eating or starvation. These skills are appropriate for use with all types of eating disorders for both adolescents and adults.

In addition to being an intervention for clients, training in mindfulness also supports the work, growth and well-being of the mental health professional.  Participants will experience first-hand how mindfulness cultivates and enhances numerous qualities suited to establishing a therapeutic alliance including attention, compassion, empathy and therapeutic presence. Resources for developing or enhancing a personal practice will be included.
